New US sanctions against Russia

On 20 April 2022, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) placed Transkapitalbank ("TKB") on the SDN (Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons) list. Previously, TKB was found to have actively worked to facilitate prohibited Russian transactions with Chinese and Middle Eastern business partners. At the same time, TKB is accused of offering an internet-based alternative to the SWIFT payment processing network.

OFAC has also set its sights on the virtual currency sector: also on 20 April 2022, the agency added the Russian company Bitriver to its list of sanctioned companies. Bitriver specialises in cryptocurrencies.

On 21 April 2022, US President Biden issued a proclamation banning all Russian-linked vessels from entering US ports from 28 April 2022.
