Since 1 September 2025, an updated application form has been available in the ELAN-K2 export system. The purpose of this update is to improve the management and allocation of applications and to simplify the collection of important data.
The updated form will now request additional information to make processing more efficient.
Initially, the commodity code of the exported goods should be provided, if one exists. For products or services without a commodity code – such as software, technology, services, or goods packages – a dedicated field is available. No commodity codes should be entered for procedures related to the recognition of joint projects or the issuance of general authorisations. In these cases, the field “Software, Technology, Service, Joint Project or Goods Package without Commodity Code” should be selected.
Checking Authorisation Requirements
Applicants must also indicate whether they are aware that their export or transfer transaction is subject to authorisation. This concerns obligations under the Foreign Trade and Payments Ordinance (AWV), EU Regulation 2021/821, or any EU embargo regulation. If none of these regulations apply, the corresponding field should be used to indicate that no authorisation is required, and a null authorisation certificate should be requested.
Information for Null Authorisation Certificates
For applications for null authorisation certificates, the specific reason for the application must also be provided, especially if the company was referred to the BAFA by customs. In this case, the relevant reference number should be entered in the free-text field. Additional information relevant to the processing of the application can also be provided there.
