The European Council has imposed new sanctions against Iran, covering seven individuals and seven organisations. The measures are directed against the development and delivery of drones and missiles to Russia to support its war against Ukraine. They also affect groups and organisations that threatenpeace in the Middle East and the Red Sea.
Three Iranian airlines, two procurement companies, two companies that produce rocket fuel and the Iranian deputy defence minister are affected.
The EU strongly condemns Iran's delivery of ballistic missiles to Russia. These missiles would pose a direct threat to Europe's security. Iran has also supplied drones and ammunition to Russia, which are being used in the war against Ukraine.
In response to the Iranian missile attack on Israel, the USA has also imposed new sanctions against Iran. The new US sanctionsaffect companies involved in the Iranian oil trade as well as several ships transporting Iranian oil. Iran had fired around 200 missiles at Israel on 1 October.
