The first implementation phase of the new centralized import customs clearance system started on 1 July 2024.
The "Centralized Clearance for Import" (CCI) enables companies to process their customs formalities at a central point, regardless of where the goods are imported into the EU. Centralization is intended to reduce administrative work and costs. In addition, companies should benefit from simplified and faster customs procedures under the CCI, which should also facilitate and strengthen international trade.
The CCI was introduced as part of the Union Customs Code (UCC) and should be of particular benefit to companies operating in several EU Member States. According to the UCC work program, the second phase of the CCI system is scheduled for June 2, 2025.
Companies interested in using the "Centralized Clearance for Import" must first apply for a CCI authorization and receive it from the competent customs authority of the EU Member State. This is the EU member state in which the applicant is based. The application for authorization can be made via the so-called EU Trader Portal (in Germany via the customs portal).
The CCI authorization is an exclusive procedural facilitation for economic operators who are certified as AEO C or AEO F.
