The Interim Trade Agreement (ITA) between the European Union and Chile replaces the previous Association Agreement and will enter into force on 1 February 2025.
The following changes will apply from 1 February 2025:
Movement certificates EUR.1 and invoice declarations issued under the (old) Association Agreement between the EU and Chile will no longer be recognised as proof of preferential origin for goods imported into or released for free circulation in the European Union or Chile from 1 February 2025.
From that date, the application for preferential tariff treatment will be based on a declaration of origin or, where appropriate, on the importer's assurance.
The agreement can be applied to products that meet the rules of origin and that are in transit, in temporary storage in customs warehouses or in duty-free areas in the EU contracting party or in Chile on 1 February 2025, provided that a declaration of origin is submitted to the customs authorities of the importing contracting party.
With the entry into force of the Interim Trade Agreement, the Authorised Exporter system will be replaced by the REX system. The REX number must be indicated in the declarations of origin for EU originating products for consignments over 6,000 euros.
