Deadline for submission of the first CBAM report extended

On 31 January 2024, the deadline for the companies concerned to submit the first CBAM quarterly report expired.

Shortly before the deadline, technical problems occurred in the CBAM register, so that the European Commission has provided a new function in the transitional register since 1 February, which makes it possible to submit the first CBAM report 30 days after the deadline.

This option is only available if no report has been submitted by 1 February.

A communication from the European Commission states that the companies concerned will not be penalised if they are unable to submit the report by the deadline due to technical problems. However, the report should be submitted as soon as possible once the IT error in the CBAM portal has been rectified, according to the EU.

The CBAM reports for the first two reporting periods can be amended until 31 July 2024. In addition, a simplification of reporting is planned by allowing the use of default values in the CBAM reports until 31 July 2024.
