Trade in goods with Ghana: changeover to the REX system

For imports of products originating in Ghana into the EU, the "approved exporter" system will be replaced by the "registered exporter" system as of 20 August 2023.

On 12 July 2023, the European Commission published a notice in Official Journal (EU) C 245 on valid proofs of origin for imports of products originating in Ghana into the European Union under the EU-Ghana Interim Economic Partnership Agreement from 20 August 2023.

From that date, originating products from Ghana can only be imported into the EU with preferential treatment if a declaration of origin has been issued by

  • a registered exporter in accordance with the relevant Ghanaian legislation, or
  • any exporter for consignments of one or more packages containing originating products whose value does not exceed 6,000 euros per consignment.
